Bev, Audrey and Bill’s daughter asked me to photograph her parents’ 60th wedding anniversary. I’ve known Bev for a while now: she is the team manager of our representative men’s basketball team, the Sunbury Jets, which I often photograph in action. Incidentally, they won back-to-back championships in their division, but that’s another story; I’ll be photographing the Jets later on in the season.

The anniversary party was at Glenroy Masonic Hall, close to where they live. The hall was filled with blue decorations—from the colours of the bridal party—and their friends and family, all full of happiness at this celebration. The couple delivered a very funny speech and then proceeded to do a smartly executed waltz, much to the delight of their guests and slight consternation of their family!

It is always truly special to be a part of a milestone occasion such as this. It reminded me that a wedding day is just one day you choose to be married; Audrey and Bill have chosen to stay married for 60 years.

Congratulations!

Modern Ringlet

Modern Ringlet
Something old, something new; the old and new fashioned ringlet.

I loved this bride’s attitude: Modern yet old-fashioned! I spotted her while having my hair done and asked if I could snap a picture with my iPhone.

She had a lovely modern ringlet that perfectly encompassed a traditional hairstyle but with a contemporary edge.

While waiting for her bridesmaids to finish having their hair done at the hairdresser, she took her beer into the sunshine and reflected on her wedding day. She was excited by what the afternoon’s ceremony signified but, more importantly, she reminded me that she was in fact much keener to look forward to the life journey she was going to spend with her husband: “I’m looking forward to just curling up on the couch with my slippers and my husband”.

In this day of heightened materialism and consumer instant gratification she was like a breath of fresh air—looking at the long term journey, not just the day.

I wish her many cosy evenings in her slippers.
